2017 Solar Panel Generation Stats
Another year with a drop in solar generation. Last year saw a slight decline that followed a couple of very good years including the record breaking 2014. This year however is the lowest so far with low figures throughout most of the year. The only highlight did see the last few months receive a little pick-up helped with a November record.
Hopefully 2018 will be a better year for the Sanyo paneled 2kw system.

2016 Solar Panel Generation Stats
Following a couple of very good years of solar generation including the record breaking 2014, this year was a little let down with poor performance over the winter months.
2016 was not the lowest so can’t really grumble and I’m still pleased with the year’s yield from the 2kw system. The chart below shows the performance over the last twelve months.
Poor Solar Harvesting Result
After a poor May, then a great June – we’ve now got an exceptionally poor July 🙁 July 2015 has been the poorest July since my solar system was installed by some 27%.

Tesla unveils a battery to power homes from solar panels
Have just seen this on the news and it could well be something of interest to all those who have solar panels on the roof. It’s certainly new technology that I’m going to watch with a lot of interest. I cut my imported electricity use by more than half since I had my solar panel installation – if I can cut it further then that will be even better!
The Tesla web site has revealed

Powerwall is a home battery that charges using electricity generated from solar panels, or when utility rates are low, and powers your home in the evening. It also fortifies your home against power outages by providing a backup electricity supply. Automated, compact and simple to install, Powerwall offers independence from the utility grid and the security of an emergency backup.
Lots of questions to ask but this looks like the perfect partner for a home solar panel installation. Most of us are out when the sun is providing us with the best electricity yield and therefore a large part of our solar generation gets exported to the Grid. At night, when the sun has gone we then purchase the electricity back again at higher rates. So imagine the prospect of a device that holds some of this electric back for us to use instead of buying it back when the sun is either in or not brighter enough.
So for now well done to Tesla 🙂
The Solar Photovoltaic feed-in tariffs (FIT) will rise on 1st April 2015. This will be in line with inflation based on the Retail Price Index (RPI).
The RPI rate of 1.6% will be applied to the feed-in-tariff payments to solar electricity generators as from the beginning of April 2015.
This will see the top current rate of 48.07 per kW rise to 48.84 pence per kW. The export rate will also increase from 3.39 per kW to 3.44 pence per kW.

What could I expect after a record solar power generation year? I would of hoped for a good steady January to start 2015 off… What I actually produced after starting the month poorly on the first day was yet another great month. It was the best January in the four that the solar system has been installed. Is this a lucky month after a great year or maybe it’s solar generation getting better with climate changes – whatever it is I’m very pleased to start the year so well 🙂

After such a great year in 2014 for solar generation I’ve added another chart to show the yield progression over the twelve months. This eventually lead to my Sanyo panelled solar system achieving the best year to date.
Looking at the year and comparing it with the previous three that I’ve been generating my own electricity, it was only June that stood out with an increase of 28 kWs. February and December also saw an increase. So, although a few record months, but no overall best month or day gave me the best year to date!
November was a poor month in 2014, the lowest so far. But as mentioned last month, I only needed 37 kWs to make it a record year. And we’ve done it. What’s even more impressive is that there’s still a month of solar harvesting to go 🙂
